Following a fifteen-year career in fashion, Phelps launched a career as a fine artist. Phelps’ art is influenced by her many years in fashion, as well as her Southern background. She first began creating art as a child with her late mother and credits the birth of her sons as the catalyst for creativity and career rebirth.

Today, Phelps’ work focuses on the bond of parent and child as well as preserving the magic of childhood. Working primarily in oils, charcoals, and pastels, nearly all of her work is commissioned, with limited studio releases.

Phelps currently works and lives in Gramercy, Manhattan, New York City. You can view her work or book a sitting by appointment only, in her studio at the historic National Arts Club.

“After my mother passed, I was on a quest to reconnect with her. I resigned from the world of luxury fashion after I became pregnant with my first son and longed for her presence. I found that my most vivid memories were not the milestone events but the most simple times spent together; how she brushed away my hair while reading me a bedtime story, the songs she sang, or painting on the back porch. Each time I create an artwork, I find her.”
